GREEN GRASS, GREENER GRASS!!!
It was about 4 or 5 years ago. I was already courting my husband and everything was going fine.
Then a good friend of mine entered into a relationship. He told me how he waited for almost a year to get a positive response from her (Wow!).
As the relationship progressed he told me how they were always doing prayers (morning and evening) over the phone, book review, prayer walk and all.
I couldn’t stop thinking how everything seemed so sweet in their relationship and how ours on the other hand wasn’t as good despite we had a day of fasting every week, we pray over the phone and share Rhema with each other.
To me, our grass was green, theirs was greener. I became aggressive towards my husband (then fiance), I would complain severally about how he wasn’t doing enough. The Holy Spirit cautioned me Himself and I had to adjust.
The grass always looks greener at the other side.
You see a man well-dressed and you just wish he was your man instead of the person you’re dating. You forget he probably wasn’t that cute or well-dressed some years back.
You see a spirikoko sister who prays for 22 hours daily and you suddenly remember your partner is not prayerful enough.
You see a surprise birthday party a wife organised for her husband and you feel so ‘unlucky’ to have married someone who can’t even think of such.
You see a couple always doing lovey lovey and theirs seem to be a perfect home and you wallow in regret about how you and partner never seem to enjoy yourselves.
You see your friends going to Dubai for honeymoon while you had to stay indoor throughout because you had no money to spend and you feel “unfortunate”.
Hey dear, the grass always looks greener on the other side. No one loves to wash their dirty underwear in public, you won’t hear the negative stories so often.
Love, courtship, marriage is a process, walk through it with patience, understanding and teachable heart and you both will come out better together. Be ready to learn and improve.
Yes, the grass may be truly greener on the other side but that’s because someone is watering it. The greener grass you see today is the effort of two people in their relationship. Invest in yours and stop wishing away.
What God has given you is the very best. Hold on to it and cherish it!!!
