MARRIAGERELATIONSHIP

LOVE AND DECISION MAKING

The earlier we know and understand that love goes way beyond the butterflies in your belly, the better for us as we truly prepare for the reality of sharing our lives together.

It’s all vibes and romance until life-changing decisions are to be made and your partner looks to you for opinions capable of influencing their decision.

A few years back, King D was torn between two job choices, each with their perks and downside and he asked me what I thought about it. Hmmn, we sat down and analyzed things and then we prayed. We jointly decided on which of the offers he should go for and he went in afraid. I on the other hand kept praying that God should help us not to regret the choice we have made.

A few months down the line, it became obvious that we had made the right choice because we got inside information about the other organization which would have been a setback for him, careerwise.

We have also jointly made a decision that led to a huge loss of funds (a story for another day)

Life is all about decision making and when you decide to do life together, it’s just right to be a part of this process; the seemingly little decisions like “what are we eating tonightπŸ˜€” and the huge ones like “to japa or not and where to?”, to resign and start a business, to go into full-time ministry etc

Few things to note about decision-making in marriage/relationship

-Desire God’s wisdom as this is vital to good decision making

-Take time to pray together for God’s leading

– Develop yourself intellectually. Don’t be empty, if you are, you will be sidelined during decision making and you really can’t blame your partner.

– If you have different opinions, take some time to reevaluate. If your opinion is not taken, still pray and wish your partner a good outcome (it’s not a competition) and in case things don’t go well, do not play the blame game.

– Don’t be quick to discard your partner’s opinion, it can destroy their self-esteem. Be a good listener and if you won’t be taking their suggestion on the subject matter, it’s honorable to let them know why.
