CLICK ME TO READ LAST EPISODE:
It has become a normal thing for patients to walk into the premises I work and on first contact, they begin to speak the Igbo language to me.
Check my picture, do I look like an Igbo woman?
You can call me Sister Oluchi or Sister Nkechi Many times I would have to inform them that I am not an Igbo woman and that they should speak in the language I understand, as I may not be able to help them if there is a language barrier.
For us to communicate effectively, each of us needs to speak the language the other understands, not even the one we assume would be their language. And so it is in the journey of love…
We meet people and want to speak our own love language to them.Because my love language is quality time, I automatically believe that for me to show love to my partner I must give them quality time, forgetting that their language is Words of affirmation.
No matter how much of my time I give, if I do not speak words of affirmation to him, it would be as so I am speaking Spanish to an Hausa man.
You would be wasting your efforts and time speaking a language their emotions or soul does not understand. One of our primary responsibilities in showing love to our partners is to dedicate ourselves to seeking to understand how they want to be loved and love them that way.
You both may not have the same love language and so it would be disastrous for you to speak your language to them, they may never understand.
Also, you need to tell your partner what your love language is. It makes the work easier. Tell them your preference.
P.S 1: For those who may not know, there are 5 primary love languages according to Gary Chapman. They include Quality time, Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Physical Touch and Gifts. You can read the book for in-depth knowledge on the topic.
Do you know yours and do you know your partner’s? If not, get to work right away
