The Lie

click here if you missed EP5

Time had passed.

Months.

Long… stretching… painful months.

🌆 Life in America

In America, John had changed.

Not completely.

But enough.

Work had consumed him.

The pressure.

The deadlines.

The endless routine.

But beneath all of that…

was something deeper.

Guilt.

Confusion.

And a quiet ache he refused to confront.

💭 Amara…

Her name still lived in his heart.

Even when he avoided thinking about her.

Even when he stayed busy to forget.

🤝 Daniel’s Invitation

One evening, Daniel called him.

🗣 Daniel:
“Guy, come over this weekend. My sister is visiting.”

John hesitated for a moment.

Then agreed.

Maybe a distraction would help.

🏠 The Apartment

Daniel’s apartment was warm.

Comfortable.

Lively.

Laughter filled the room.

For the first time in a while…

John felt relaxed.

🚪 Then the door opened.

And everything changed.

⚡ The Unexpected Encounter

A woman walked in.

Confident.

Familiar.

Too familiar.

John’s body froze instantly.

His heart skipped.

His eyes widened.

🗣 John (shocked):
“Jolie?”

She stopped.

Looked at him.

And then smiled slowly.

🗣 Jolie:
“Small world… right?”

💭 The Past Returns

In that moment…

memories flooded back.

The park.

The tension.

The unspoken rivalry.

The quiet jealousy.

Everything came rushing back like a wave.

John turned to Daniel, confused.

🗣 John:
“Wait… she’s your sister?”

🗣 Daniel (laughing):
“Yeah! You didn’t know?”

But John wasn’t laughing.

Something didn’t feel right.

🍽️ The Conversation

They sat down.

Talked.

Laughed lightly.

But beneath the surface…

there was tension.

Invisible.

But very present.

Jolie watched John carefully.

Studying him.

Measuring him.

Remembering everything.

💭 Jolie’s Thoughts

So this is the man…

The one Amara chose over everything.

Her smile remained.

But her thoughts were sharp.

📱 John’s Request

After a while, John leaned closer.

His voice softened.

Almost desperate.

🗣 John:
“Please… when you go back to Nigeria…”

He paused.

Swallowed.

🗣 John:
“Give Amara my number.”

There was silence for a moment.

Small.

But heavy.

⚠️ The Shift

Jolie’s smile faded slightly.

Not completely.

Just enough.

In that brief moment…

something changed inside her.

She remembered the park.

The way Amara was loved.

The way she wasn’t.

The way she felt invisible.

And suddenly…

an opportunity appeared.

🎭 The Lie Begins

She looked down briefly.

As if struggling to speak.

Then looked back up.

With controlled emotion.

🗣 Jolie (quietly):
“John… I don’t think Amara would want that.”

John frowned immediately.

Confused.

🗣 John:
“What do you mean?”

She hesitated again.

Perfectly timed.

Perfectly calculated.

🗣 Jolie (soft, almost sad):
“She’s… pregnant.”

⚡ The Impact

The words landed like thunder.

John blinked.

Once.

Twice.

As if his mind refused to process it.

🗣 John (barely audible):
“Pregnant?”

Jolie nodded slowly.

Her face calm.

Too calm.

🗣 Jolie:
“Yes.”

She paused.

Just enough to deepen the wound.

🗣 Jolie:
“For another man.”

💔 The Collapse

Something inside John broke instantly.

His face lost color.

His body stiffened.

The room around him faded.

The laughter.

The voices.

Everything disappeared.

All he could hear…

was that sentence.

💭 For another man.

🧠 His Thoughts

How?

When?

After everything?

After the oath?

His chest tightened.

Pain spread through him like fire.

🌑 The Silent Destruction

He said nothing.

Because there were no words left.

Only shock.

Only pain.

Only betrayal.

And just like that…

a lie became his reality.

The shadow had taken another step.

Not through actions this time…

but through words.

📖 Scripture Reflection – Episode 6

“A lying tongue hates those it hurts.”
— Book of Proverbs 26:28

Sometimes…

the deepest wounds are not caused by distance…

but by deception.
