THE HUNTING SHADOW – EPISODE 4

The Oath

Fear has a way of disguising itself as love.

Sometimes what we call commitment is simply the desperation not to lose someone.

Under the large tree near the lake, the evening air stood still.

John stared at Amara, unsure of what she had just said.

An oath.

The word itself felt heavier than love.

πŸ—£ John:
β€œAmara… an oath is serious.”

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œSo is losing you.”

She stepped closer.

Her voice trembled.

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œI’m not asking because I don’t love you. I’m asking because I’m afraid.”

John searched her eyes.

He saw fear… but also sincerity.

πŸ—£ John:
β€œYou really believe distance could change me?”

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œI believe distance changes people.”

Silence settled between them.

The lake behind them rippled gently.

Then Amara spoke again.

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œPromise me you will never marry another woman.”

John hesitated.

πŸ—£ John:
β€œAnd you?”

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œI will never marry another man.”

She continued.

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œAnd if either of us breaks the oath… there should be consequences.”

John frowned.

πŸ—£ John:
β€œConsequences?”

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œYes. Something that will remind us that love is sacred.”

He looked up at the tree above them.

The same tree that had witnessed their laughter for years.

Now it was about to witness something else.

Something they did not understand.

Slowly, John took her hands.

πŸ—£ John:
β€œThen let this tree be our witness.”

They raised their hands together.

πŸ—£ John:
β€œI swear that no matter where life takes me, I will return to you.”

πŸ—£ Amara:
β€œAnd I swear that no matter how long it takes, I will wait for you.”

Their voices trembled.

πŸ—£ Together:
β€œIf we break this oath… may our future never know peace.”

The wind suddenly moved through the branches.

Leaves rustled loudly.

But neither of them noticed.

They were already crying.

Love had spoken.

But fear had written the contract.

Scripture Reflection – Episode 4

β€œAgain, you have heard that it was said… β€˜Do not break your oath.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all.”
