40 DAYS BACK…
Promise packed the plates on the table to the kitchen. Rachael walked to the door as she saw Promise approaching. “I‟ll soon be back, Promise.”
Promise glimpsed at the wall clock. “This is 8pm already, Rachael. Why don‟t you visit him tomorrow?”
“I just want to see him for some important stuffs, I will be right back.” She replied.
“But it is late already, Rachael. By the way, it is obvious that it‟s going to rain.”
She swooshed out a long breath and held the handle of the door. “Thank God his house is not far from here, Promise. I‟ll be right back.”
Promise shrugged. “Just know it is late and remember he also stays alone.”
“He is a spiritual brother, purify your thought!”
Promise chuckled. “I know he is. But spiritual brothers are not stones also.”
Rachael shook her head. “You are carnal!”
“This is not a matter of carnality, Rachael. Anyways, don‟t be long.”
“Sure. Please be here so I won‟t start knocking. You know Mum and Dad have gone to bed.”
“Sure, I will wait till 6pm. If you are not back, that‟s the end.” “I should be back.” She replied.
“This is not a matter of should, Rachael. You must be back! A whole Bible Study Coordinator. Pastor won‟t know that you coming here to sleep tonight is because you want to use a stone to kill two birds.”
She chuckled. “All the best for you.” She replied and left.

<!–[if mso & !supportInlineShapes & supportFields]> <![endif]–>Rachael hardly got to Sam‟s house than the rain began. She rushed as fast as she could and finally got to his place. She wanted it to be a surprise visit, at least she came to visit Rachael and she just wanted to seize the opportunity to meet Sam just for few minutes. “Good evening.” She grinned as she entered.
Sam was surprised. “I wasn‟t expecting you, Rachael. What‟s happening?” he asked.
She shrugged. “Nothing. I have been at Rachael‟s place, so I just came to say hello to you.”
He chuckled. “But it is late already, and you‟ve been beaten by the rain.”
“It was refreshing.”
Sam peeped outside. The rain was really getting heavier with ear-splitting thunders backing up. “What will you do now, Rachael? This rain is getting heavier.”
“I don‟t even know. I will just watch it and leaven when it goes down.” She replied.
“Oh, please sit down.” He said as he walked to a seat too. He hardly sat when the electricity went off. “This is an error. Sorry, you are welcome to the house of a brother without a generator.” He said jokingly as he stood up and navigated the darkness to get his phone so he could use it‟s flashlight.
As he stepped back into the living room, he met Rachael already shivering so much. “This is strong. Just stand up and follow me so I can give you one of my shirts and you‟ll change into that.”
She shook her head. “No, don‟t worry. I will be fine.”
He wasn‟t satisfied. It was getting severe and the rain was getting more wicked. “No, I disagree too. You cannot be like this and certainly cannot go out into that rain by this time too.” He said as he walked to her side and pulled her up. He held her, helping her to the room as he looked for one of his shirts and gave her. “Just put this on, I‟ll be outside.” He said and dropped his phone so she could see while he walked out of the room for her.
In no time, Rachael changed into Sam‟s shirt but that couldn‟t stop the shivering. It only got worse. She got to the living room and met Sam seated in the dark there.
“I‟m sorry.” She said.
Sam smiled. “You are still shivering, Rachael. Just sit down, let me get you a hot tea.” He said as he stood up and collected the phone, walking to the kitchen. He made the tea and sat beside her as he dropped the tea. “Just sip this.”
“You want to be forming a gentle man, right?”
Sam grinned. “You know I am, don‟t you.”
She kept shivering. Sam held her hand. “Sorry.” He kept saying, gradually…. the light went out and the ministry of darkness continued…
