• “Love. Some people search for it all their lives, and some stumble upon it when they least expect. For John and Amara, love wasn’t a stumble—it was a certainty. But certainty, as they would soon learn, comes with its own fears.”

John Adewale and Amara Okoye walk hand in hand along a quiet park path.
The sun casts golden light through tall trees.
Birds sing softly.
A gentle breeze rustles the leaves.

Their steps are slow, unhurried—like two people who never want the moment to end.

Dialogue

🗣 Amara (smiling, yet thoughtful):
“John… do you ever think… maybe this love… it’s taking too long?”

🗣 John (stopping, turning to her, holding her hands):
“Too long? Amara, what do you mean?”

🗣 Amara (looking down):
“I mean… we’ve been together for years now. Sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever… move forward. Life is passing us by.”

🗣 John (gently lifting her chin):
“Every moment with you is worth the wait. I’d wait forever if it means being with you.”

“Amara searched his eyes, hoping to find certainty. His words comforted her heart, yet somewhere deep inside, a quiet fear whispered—what if love grew tired of waiting?”

Later that night.

John lies on his bed in his room, headphones on, listening to soft music.
The lights are dim.
His phone vibrates beside him.

He glances at it.

Caller ID: Daniel (USA)

John hesitates… then answers.

Dialogue

🗣 John (removing one earphone):
“Daniel! My guy! What’s up?”

🗣 Daniel (excited):
“Bro! John! We got it! We got the contract!”

🗣 John (sits up, shocked):
“Wait… what? Are you serious?!”

🗣 Daniel:
“Dead serious! The company approved everything. Big project. Good pay. This is our breakthrough!”

🗣 John (laughing):
“Man… God is good! I’ve been praying for this!”

🗣 Daniel (pauses):
“Yeah… but bro… there’s something you need to know.”

🗣 John (concerned):
“What is it?”

🗣 Daniel:
“They changed the terms.”

🗣 John:
“Changed how?”

🗣 Daniel:
“It’s no longer remote. You’ll have to come to the States. Work on-site.”

(Silence)

John’s smile fades.

🗣 John (slowly):
“Come… to the States?”

🗣 Daniel:
“Yeah. At least one year. Maybe more.”

🗣 John (stands up, pacing):
“Daniel… I can’t.”

🗣 Daniel:
“Why not?”

🗣 John:
“Amara. I can’t leave her. We’ve built everything together.”

🗣 Daniel:
“Bro, this is your future we’re talking about.”

🗣 John:
“My future is with her.”

🗣 Daniel (softening):
“And you think she wouldn’t want you to succeed?”

🗣 John:
“It’s not that… I’m afraid. Distance changes people.”

🗣 Daniel:
“Or it makes them stronger.”

🗣 John (quietly):
“What if she feels abandoned?”

🗣 Daniel:
“If she loves you, she’ll understand. This is temporary, John. Your dream isn’t selfish.”

(John closes his eyes.)

🗣 Daniel (firmly):
“Pray about it. Talk to her. Don’t kill your destiny because of fear.”

🗣 John (after a pause):
“I’ll… think about it.”

🗣 Daniel:
“Good. Call me tomorrow.”

(Call ends.)

“John stared at his phone as though it carried both his blessing and his burden. Opportunity had knocked—but it demanded a sacrifice he wasn’t sure he was ready to make.”

John sits on the edge of his bed.

His hands are clasped together.
His eyes stare into space.

Amara’s photo is on his phone screen.

“How do you tell the person you love that your dreams may take you away from her?
How do you choose between destiny and devotion?”

John whispers to himself.

🗣 John (softly):
“Lord… how do I tell her?”

Tears threaten his eyes.

Back at the park.

Twilight has arrived.

The sky is purple and orange.
The lake reflects the fading light.

John and Amara sit on the same bench, hands intertwined.

But John looks distant… troubled.

Amara notices.

🗣 Amara (concerned):
“John… are you okay?”

🗣 John (forcing a smile):
“Yeah… I’m fine.”

(But he isn’t.)

Nearby, two girls walk past.

Jolie and Mary—Amara’s friends.

They whisper carelessly.

🗣 Jolie (mocking):
“These two look so in love. But honestly… why would Amara even deserve a man like that? She’s not even that pretty.”

🗣 Mary (smirking):
“Please. That relationship won’t last. Just wait.”

Amara hears them.

Her smile fades.

John squeezes her hand tighter.

“Love stood between them—strong, sincere, and unshaken.
Yet unseen storms were gathering.
Dreams, doubts, jealousy, and distance had begun their quiet work.”

“For now, John and Amara held each other, believing in forever… unaware that forever was about to be tested.”
