John Adewale and Amara Okoye walk hand in hand along a quiet park path.
The sun casts golden light through tall trees.
Birds sing softly.
A gentle breeze rustles the leaves.

Their steps are slow, unhurriedβ€”like two people who never want the moment to end.

Dialogue

πŸ—£ Amara (smiling, yet thoughtful):
β€œJohn… do you ever think… maybe this love… it’s taking too long?”

πŸ—£ John (stopping, turning to her, holding her hands):
β€œToo long? Amara, what do you mean?”

πŸ—£ Amara (looking down):
β€œI mean… we’ve been together for years now. Sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever… move forward. Life is passing us by.”

πŸ—£ John (gently lifting her chin):
β€œEvery moment with you is worth the wait. I’d wait forever if it means being with you.”

“Amara searched his eyes, hoping to find certainty. His words comforted her heart, yet somewhere deep inside, a quiet fear whisperedβ€”what if love grew tired of waiting?”

Later that night.

John lies on his bed in his room, headphones on, listening to soft music.
The lights are dim.
His phone vibrates beside him.

He glances at it.

Caller ID: Daniel (USA)

John hesitates… then answers.

Dialogue

πŸ—£ John (removing one earphone):
β€œDaniel! My guy! What’s up?”

πŸ—£ Daniel (excited):
β€œBro! John! We got it! We got the contract!”

πŸ—£ John (sits up, shocked):
β€œWait… what? Are you serious?!”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œDead serious! The company approved everything. Big project. Good pay. This is our breakthrough!”

πŸ—£ John (laughing):
β€œMan… God is good! I’ve been praying for this!”

πŸ—£ Daniel (pauses):
β€œYeah… but bro… there’s something you need to know.”

πŸ—£ John (concerned):
β€œWhat is it?”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œThey changed the terms.”

πŸ—£ John:
β€œChanged how?”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œIt’s no longer remote. You’ll have to come to the States. Work on-site.”

(Silence)

John’s smile fades.

πŸ—£ John (slowly):
β€œCome… to the States?”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œYeah. At least one year. Maybe more.”

πŸ—£ John (stands up, pacing):
β€œDaniel… I can’t.”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œWhy not?”

πŸ—£ John:
β€œAmara. I can’t leave her. We’ve built everything together.”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œBro, this is your future we’re talking about.”

πŸ—£ John:
β€œMy future is with her.”

πŸ—£ Daniel (softening):
β€œAnd you think she wouldn’t want you to succeed?”

πŸ—£ John:
β€œIt’s not that… I’m afraid. Distance changes people.”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œOr it makes them stronger.”

πŸ—£ John (quietly):
β€œWhat if she feels abandoned?”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œIf she loves you, she’ll understand. This is temporary, John. Your dream isn’t selfish.”

(John closes his eyes.)

πŸ—£ Daniel (firmly):
β€œPray about it. Talk to her. Don’t kill your destiny because of fear.”

πŸ—£ John (after a pause):
β€œI’ll… think about it.”

πŸ—£ Daniel:
β€œGood. Call me tomorrow.”

(Call ends.)

“John stared at his phone as though it carried both his blessing and his burden. Opportunity had knockedβ€”but it demanded a sacrifice he wasn’t sure he was ready to make.”

John sits on the edge of his bed.

His hands are clasped together.
His eyes stare into space.

Amara’s photo is on his phone screen.

“How do you tell the person you love that your dreams may take you away from her?
How do you choose between destiny and devotion?”

John whispers to himself.

πŸ—£ John (softly):
β€œLord… how do I tell her?”

Tears threaten his eyes.

Back at the park.

Twilight has arrived.

The sky is purple and orange.
The lake reflects the fading light.

John and Amara sit on the same bench, hands intertwined.

But John looks distant… troubled.

Amara notices.

πŸ—£ Amara (concerned):
β€œJohn… are you okay?”

πŸ—£ John (forcing a smile):
β€œYeah… I’m fine.”

(But he isn’t.)

Nearby, two girls walk past.

Jolie and Maryβ€”Amara’s friends.

They whisper carelessly.

πŸ—£ Jolie (mocking):
β€œThese two look so in love. But honestly… why would Amara even deserve a man like that? She’s not even that pretty.”

πŸ—£ Mary (smirking):
β€œPlease. That relationship won’t last. Just wait.”

Amara hears them.

Her smile fades.

John squeezes her hand tighter.

“Love stood between themβ€”strong, sincere, and unshaken.
Yet unseen storms were gathering.
Dreams, doubts, jealousy, and distance had begun their quiet work.”

“For now, John and Amara held each other, believing in forever… unaware that forever was about to be tested.”
